This summer, Together Again organized an excursion for displaced youth members from several kibbutzim now hosted in northern Israel. This outing aimed to offer a sense of stability and remind participants of their innate strengths through challenging outdoor activities.
Our journey kicked off with a photography workshop, designed to offer participants not only a creative outlet but also a valuable skill. The workshop encouraged them to express their feelings visually rather than verbally, allowing for a unique form of self-expression. This activity aimed to help them process their emotions and experiences through the lens, capturing moments and scenes that resonated with their inner state.
Next, we ventured into the Gilboa mountain for an invigorating rock climbing session. This activity emphasized mutual support and encouragement, as participants worked together to overcome physical and mental challenges. The experience of climbing, with its inherent risks and triumphs, served as a powerful metaphor for their personal journeys, teaching resilience and teamwork.
The adventure continued with a surfing session at Caesarea beach. Here, the focus was on perseverance and the importance of persistence, even in the face of setbacks. Surfing, with its ebb and flow, underscored the lesson that failure is a natural part of growth. Participants learned to fall, get back up, and try again, embodying the spirit of resilience needed in their current situations.
The program culminated in a reflective session with Itay, a fellow soldier who recently returned from Gaza. This final segment took place in a natural setting, where Itay shared his experiences and insights, providing a space for the youth to reconnect with nature and learn survival skills. Activities included identifying edible plants, learning to make ropes, and enhancing their sensory awareness. This time in nature was not only educational but also healing, offering a peaceful environment for introspection and recovery.
The excursion provided a much-needed respite and imparted new skills. As these youths face an uncertain future, the bonds forged during these activities will offer them strength and support.
We look forward to our communities growing even stronger. Stay tuned for more updates and join us in our mission to rebuild and reconnect.
